Warby Parker is a transformative lifestyle brand offering designer eyewear at a revolutionary price while leading the way for socially-conscious businesses. The company’s engineering team is made up of capable, flexible and enthusiastic people who pursue a huge range of activities, all of which advance Warby Parker’s innovative approach to e-commerce, retail and customer service. We are The Oculists. It’s on this blog that we recount the technical challenges we face and share the solutions we find.
Almost three centuries ago, an underground group of European eye surgeons met to research and conduct sight-restoring operations on the sly. Their seal featured a cataract needle, a pince-nez and cats (to signify nocturnal vision). But this group, the Great Enlightened Society of Oculists, was devoted to more than just opthalmology, and their advancements were not limited to medical techniques alone: noblemen and merchants alike were allowed to join, as were women. The Society’s inclusive practices were to become tenants of modern democratic government.
This ancient order used a cryptograph so tough and tangled that it took 260 years, advanced computing, and machine translation to even begin to crack it. To this day, it remains mostly un-deciphered.
Like the Oculists, the engineers at Warby Parker restore sight, hunger for knowledge, use advanced technologies and welcome all who can help.
